For this release Aureole wanted the artwork to be bright full and happy. The CD booklet also contains 4 pages with song text. For those pages elements from this CD design are reused as background images. The illustrations where drawn on the computer.

One illustration tells the story for this release. The characters in the design can be recognized because I used photograph reference. The characters are placed in a virtual city where advertising billboards in the background refer to previous releases.

Japanese music label: Kilk Records, KLK-2001 / 2010

In this CD design we are flying around a house. Here a group of people have gathered for the evening. The house is standing on a mountain and in the background we see a city, a river and a forest. A mysterious star lids the scene.
First I made a simple 3D model to get a clear idea about the scene and the scale of the house and the environment. After that the illustrations have been created in 2D on the computer.

The illustrations had to be spacious and bright full. This gave me the idea of a woman on the beach with the sea in the background. I digitally added classical elements of architecture.

Before I started sketching for this CD design the title was known, so the topic is based on the title. The image for the inlay depicts the inside of an igloo. It looks like a music studio. The CD that is placed on top of it resembles the top of the igloo.

It took quiet some time before it was clear to us how to finish these illustrations. At the beginning we had a driving bus instead of the elephant at the front for example. The front image was finished first and after that I worked on the remaining illustrations. Normally I finish all artwork around the same time.

For this design I also created an other world. The front side shows a crevice in the landscape. It seems it was not created in an natural way. For better protection the cities have been build in huge caves underground.
The robot on the backside has first been modeled in wax. A photograph of the model has been digitally enhanced and is placed in a virtual environment. For me it's easier to test different perspectives and the angle of light with a real model.

The singer and guitar player in the artwork are inspired by the members of the band. Therefore I received photographs. The guitarist is playing a Fender Stratocaster guitar.

The illustrations for this CD design have been pressed in only one color. I drew them in vector format so that they are very sharp and detailed. For text we added one extra color. The design is pressed on blank brownish recycled paper.

Electronic music label: Sending Orbs, SO 008 / 2007

Most of the artwork for Sending Orbs is inspires by orbs. In this design we wanted to focus on an object without a background. Nevertheless I created an imaginary world for this design. In that world organic orbs fly over the surface of their planet. One orb is caught and modified with artificial elements. In this design I dismantle such an orb.
All the objects are first modeled in wax and painted. In that way I can hold the imaginary objects in my hands and pick the angle most suitable for the design. Floating elements, reflections, different textures and materials are digitally added to the photographs.

Coax wanted a girl playing a piano on the front side. Around that image I created a world. The artwork has a warm brownish color that fits the atmosphere of the music. The illustrations are drawn wit pencil and digitally colored.

Big orbs float above a city and make people celebrate a most destructive party.
The illustrations are drawn with a black pencil on very thin rice paper and colored with water paint. After that the illustrations are digitally enhanced.

We can here a train in Blamstrains music. This is the inspiration for the CD design. A musical journey lead us through a dreamlike city. Through the window we see enormous insects and birds. Luminous seeds fall to the ground and germinate into huge flowers.
The illustrations are sketched with pencil on paper and colored on the computer.

A steam train journeys through a beautiful forest. It's final destination is a castle high in the mountains. The energy the train is using comes from a red orb. The orb is filled with green rock that is mined inside the castle.
The illustrations are painted with water colore on very thin rice paper. The original images are 24cm high.

This is the first CD design I made for Sending Orbs. We inspired the artwork on the name of the new music label. For the backside I made a scientific illustration of a flower. All it's parts are named after the music titles. In the booklet we find an old document about the same flower. This inspired me to draw a movie strip about the flower for the front page. The CD and inlay are quiet abstract. But all pictures depict an orb in relationship with nature.

Most illustrations are painted with acrylic paint on thick cardboard.
