From the 12th until the 29th of September I have been the artistic leader of the 12th edition of the International Sand sculpture Festival Zhoushan. We broke the Guinness book of world record of highest sand sculpture with the 22,43 meters high top! |

Photo by Luc Dibbelink, day 1. This is the view we have if we stand on the highest sculpture. Only during the first days this photo could be taken, because if the sculpture is finished we cannot climb up anymore! |
Photo by Luc Dibbelink, day 4. We work from the top to the bottom so we start with all the “hard packs”. A hard pack is sand that has layer by layer been compacted by machine in wooden forms to make it stronger than the soft pack, which is the pile of sand the hard pack is standing on. |

Day 16. This is one of many group photos. After some days some of the Chinese carvers joined our daily coffee break, they are also in the picture. The two Chinese girls helped me a lot with translation! And Martijn Rijerse is playing the sand guitar! |
Photo by Jeroen Advocaat, day 18. My Artist Impression is used at several locations to guide audience through the sand sculpture. Our work is finished now, we had a great time together! During the opening ceremony later this evening half of the international carvers will leave to catch their plane’s home. The other half of the group and me will fly tomorrow morning, my fight to Xiamen is shortest! |
